How to use the calculator
Enter your selling price, product cost, shipping, and platform fee, plus any fixed monthly program cost such as free samples. Use the sliders for the creator's commission rate and the monthly sales you expect from them. The tool shows the brand's net per sale and margin, the creator's payout, and the monthly totals for both. Nothing you type is saved.
A worked example you can follow
Here is the default scenario: a $49 product costing $10, with $5 shipping, a 6% platform fee, and a 15% creator commission.
Worked example · $49 sale, 15% commission
Both sides of one sale
Selling price$49.00
Product cost + shipping−$15.00
Platform fee (6%)−$2.94
Creator commission (15%)−$7.35
Brand keeps per sale$23.71
The brand nets $23.71 per sale, a 48.4% margin, while the creator earns $7.35. Across 300 sales that is roughly $7,000 to the brand and $2,200 to the creator. Raising the commission rewards the creator directly, but every point comes out of the brand's margin.
The economics of a two-sided deal
An affiliate relationship is a small marketplace with aligned but competing interests. The creator wants the highest commission possible; the brand wants volume without giving away its margin. The rate that actually works is the one where the creator is motivated enough to promote consistently and the brand still profits on every sale they drive. That is a genuine negotiation, and it goes better when both parties can see the same numbers.
The useful discipline is to decide your margin floor first, then work out the highest commission that still clears it. Because commission is a percentage of price, a higher-priced product can afford a more generous rate in dollar terms while keeping the same margin. Use the tool to find the commission that leaves you a margin you can live with, and offer that with confidence.
Using this to make better decisions
Before you agree to a rate, model it here so you know your margin after the creator is paid. If the deal only works at a commission the creator will not accept, the product may be priced too low to support affiliate marketing. This is general educational guidance, not financial advice.

- Affiliate commission
- A percentage of each sale paid to a creator or affiliate who drove the purchase, charged on the selling price.Example: a 15% commission on a $49 sale is about $7.35.
- Brand margin
- What the brand keeps per sale after all costs, including the creator's commission, as a percentage of the price.
- Creator payout
- The dollar amount the creator earns on each sale they generate.
- Seeding / program cost

Frequently asked questions
What commission rate is normal for influencers?
Affiliate commissions commonly range from about 10% to 20%, but the right rate depends on your margin. The calculator shows the brand margin at any rate so you can find one that keeps you profitable and still motivates the creator.
Why does commission hurt margin so much?
Because it is charged on the full selling price, not on your profit. A 15% commission on price can be a much larger share of your actual margin, which is why seeing both figures together is important.
